Woodland Community College
WCC Awarded Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) Grant to Launch the听Escalera听STEM Initiative听
Woodland Community College (WCC) has been awarded a prestigious Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) grant by the U.S. Department of Education. The grant will be used to launch the听Escalera initiative, a campus-wide strategy designed to support Hispanic/Latinx students in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields. STEM jobs are among the fastest-growing and highest-paying sectors. The college is looking forward to bringing everyone together to launch efforts in creating equitable pathways to success.听
Permanent Ballot Drop Box 听
On September 17, WCC unveiled听a new permanent ballot drop box, which was made possible thanks to the support of the Yolo County Elections Office. The new ballot drop box provides a secure, convenient way for students and community members to participate in elections.听
Undocumented Student Action Week听
On October 18, WCC has the honor of hosting the Statewide Undocumented Student Action Week conference. This year’s event promises to inspire collaboration and advocacy focused on supporting undocumented students in our system.听

In Honor of Dr. Matt Clark
At the September 12 Board Meeting, the Board adopted Resolution 24-25, honoring the life and contributions of Woodland Community College Professor, Dr. Matthew Clark. Dr. Clark鈥檚 32-year career was marked by his unwavering dedication to student success and educational excellence. In recognition of his impact, the Board also approved the naming of Room 815 at Woodland Community College as the ‘Matt Clark Math Center.’ Dr. Clark鈥檚 family attended the meeting and were present for the tribute, highlighting the appreciation and respect for his legacy within the District community.
Student Trustee Update
At the September 12 Board Meeting, the Oath of Office was given to 2024-2025 Student Trustee Shawn Tan. We are excited to welcome听both Student Trustees Tan and Grewal听to the Board and look forward to their valuable input. We appreciate their dedication and commitment to making a difference.
Partnership Meeting with Area County Supervisors to Address Workforce Shortage Challenges
On September 11, the 糖心破解版 executive team (Presidents Dotson and Navarette, Vice Chancellor Lolland, 糖心破解版 Vice President Brown, and Woodland Community College Vice President Sorensen, and Chancellor Pan) met with four County Supervisors (Lake County Supervisor Sabatier, Yuba County Supervisor Bradford, Colusa County Supervisor Boes, and Tara Thronson representing Yolo County Supervisor Frerichs) at the 糖心破解版 Colusa County Center. The meeting was called to understand the workforce shortage problem faced by area counties and explore strategies to address the challenges through partnership. During the meeting, county supervisors shared data on the number of job vacancies and hard-to-fill positions and engaged District administrators in a thoughtful discussion on how 糖心破解版 can be a solution.
糖心破解版 team members are reviewing the data shared by county supervisors, holding internal discussions, and brainstorming strategies. We are scheduling several follow-up meetings, with the next meeting being scheduled for the month of November.

Fiscal Update听
California is facing a substantial financial shortfall, with a projected $45 billion deficit for 2024-25 and $30 billion for 2025-26, due to revenue shortfalls and tax payment delays. The 2024-25 General Fund spending is set at $211.5 billion, which is 6.4% less than the previous year. The state budget includes the following measures to address the financial shortfalls:听
- State departments funding reduction of 7.95% and elimination of vacant positions.听
- Funding delays听
- Program cuts听
- Borrowing to manage shortfalls 听听
Proposition 98 funding faced overpayments in 2022. The state has decided to postpone repaying $8.8 billion in overpayments, with $6.2 billion to be repaid starting fiscal year 2026-27 and $2.6 billion deferred to 2023-24. Proposition 98 is suspended for 2023-24, creating an $8 billion “maintenance factor” to be returned in future years. 听听听
California Community Colleges Budget Highlights听
- Deferrals and Funding Adjustments: $446.4 million from Student Centered Funding Formula (SCFF) for 2023-24 deferred to 2024-25; $243.7 million from SCFF for 2024-25 deferred to 2025-26.听
- PSSSA Support: $545.9 million for apportionment costs; $241.8 million for a 2022-23 categorical program deferral.听
- Impact Assessment: No cash flow interruption expected from 2023-24 to 2024-25 deferral; impact of 2024-25 to 2025-26 deferral to be assessed.听
- Part-time Faculty Office Hours Program: Reimbursement rate increased from 50% to 90%.听

- Stability and Progress: Focus on maintaining stability and advancing the multi-year Roadmap from the 2022-23 budget.听
- Nursing and Childcare: Reduction in Strong Workforce general allocation to fund $60 million for nursing and $5 million for low-income homecare and childcare.听
- Ongoing Apportionment: 1.07% COLA and 0.50% growth for community college apportionments.听

- Credit for Prior Learning: $6 million for a demonstration project.听
- e-Transcript California: $12 million to expand to all 116 colleges.听
- FAFSA Support: $20 million for financial aid administration.听
- Affordable Student Housing: $804.7 million statewide lease revenue bond program.听
- Cal Grant Reform: Delayed due to revenue constraints.听

In considering the final budget for adoption for 2024-25, the 糖心破解版 Governing Board reviewed both , , and the District鈥檚 multi-year financial projections based on a set of assumptions. The along with and have been reviewed by the District Consultation and Coordination Council (DC3), Finance and Audit Committee of the Board prior to it being considered by the Governing Board.听There were two multi-year financial projections to the board for review and consideration.听The budget recommended and approved by the board is built upon the 鈥淐urrent SCFF Metrics鈥� scenario.听The District will bring forward a revised budget to the Governing Board if the district鈥檚 planning memo assumptions come into fruition. 听
